This report outlines the mission, programs, and impact of the Advancing Indigenous Science and Engineering Society (AISES) in advancing Indigenous representation and success in STEM fields.
There are different paths to STEM excellence and discovery. Relationships matter, between learner and lesson, between learner and teacher, even between multiple concepts. Relationships are the foundation of Indigenous learning, as well as the support students need to thrive.
Tribal families and cultures are grounded in relational values. “WE before me.” Individuals do not walk alone, and achievement is defined within the collective. Such values as deep respect and reciprocal sharing keep the circle strong, allowing more people to uncover their gifts, which become contributions to the collective. This philosophy is foundational in the mission of AISES to advance Indigenous science and propel greater numbers of STEM practitioners.
