In 2022, when a roomful of students was asked to describe an Indigenous future, they identified six dozen words. Resilience was a top choice, as were strong and ambitious: Indigenous people and knowledge center a vision of hope. Students see themselves as Indigescientists and Indigeneers. The future includes biodiversity and traditional ecological knowledge, as well as the practice of values like kinship and empathy. An Indigenous future consists of people, ideas, and responsibilities—woven into a sustainable whole. Similarly, AISES weaves assets into vessels that realize STEM-based visions.
