Research and Career Support Senior Program Officer

Brittany Anderson is a descendant of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Anishinaabe. She has been involved in AISES since her undergraduate career and is very excited to be furthering her involvement with AISES as a Career Support Senior Program Officer. In this role, Brittany will be serving within the Career Support and Research Team.

Earning a bachelor’s degree in American Indian studies, political science, and postcolonial indigenous human rights from the University of Minnesota, Morris, allowed Brittany to begin to reclaim the Morris Indian Boarding School as a site of postcolonial education for her family. She is humbled to have forged a path for each of her three sisters to continue to do the same.

After an underprepared attempt at graduate studies, Brittany found herself no longer learning in the classroom, but from the Twin Cities American Indian community. Playing and coaching traditional lacrosse, Anishinaabemowin language tables, traditional art, and gardening were all integral to her studies in being a good community member. Armed with this community knowledge, she reentered the academy, pursuing a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Youth Development and Leadership from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Her graduate research focused on historical and contemporary qualitative evaluation of institutions and programs that serve indigenous youth.

Professionally, Brittany’s career has spanned a number of capacities within educational settings serving underrepresented youth, with the bulk concentrated in higher education. Her passion for working with first-generation and low-income students is rooted in her experiences in those same footsteps. Having previously served students through advising, administration, community building, engagement, teaching, and program development, she is honored to be able to bring these skills to AISES and walk beside the students and professionals served as they achieve success for themselves, their families, and communities. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, listening to podcasts, travelling with her partner Noah and their corgi, Maple.
