Building a Community
of Kinship and
Innovation
The University of Oklahoma has a long history of building a community for our Native students. In the 1920s and 1930s, OU President Bizzell sought to create an American Indian Institute. Today, that goal has been accomplished. At OU, Native languages are taught; the OU College of Law has a certificate for American Indian and Indigenous Peoples Law along with one for Oil and Gas, Natural Resources and Energy Law; the Native Nations Center is connecting tribal governments with researchers; and the OU AISES membership is steadily growing.
There are many student, faculty and staff, alumni and faith-based organizations that offer home-away-from-home support, which allows our Native students to thrive. They realize their dreams of graduating and returning to their communities with real-world solutions.
