My name is Franklin Kennedy. I’m a student member with AISES, currently studying Computer-Aided Drafting at Midland College and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas Permian Basin. I’m also preparing for advanced studies at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where I plan to focus on Unmanned Systems and Space Operations.
I’m of Eastern Band of Cherokee descent and currently on a journey to reconnect with my Indigenous heritage. Although I’m not a tribal member, I’m deeply committed to honoring that part of my identity and building meaningful connections through education, leadership, and community service.
My academic background includes an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Electronic Engineering with a concentration in Wireless Communications and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science with a concentration in Network Security. Professionally, I’ve worked in IT across multiple industries, including healthcare, finance, defense contracting, and the Merchant Marines. I’ve also served in law enforcement and volunteered as a firefighter before returning to school full-time to pursue my passion for engineering and aerospace.
As a student member with AISES, I’m dedicated to creating opportunities for Indigenous students in STEM, especially here in Region 4. I’m working toward additional degrees in Electronics, Electrical, and Architectural Engineering. My long-term goals include earning my Professional Engineering license and a PhD. I’m currently building an aerospace-focused business in the Midland-Odessa area and am excited about what the future holds for Indigenous leadership in science, engineering, and space.
