DJ Hoffman joined AISES in 2026 as the Senior Strategic Impact Officer, bringing more than two decades of experience working with Tribal governments, Inter-Tribal organizations, and nonprofit initiatives across Indian Country. A citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, DJ has focused his career on advancing Tribal self-determination through economic development, strategic program leadership, and the effective use of federal and philanthropic resources. His work has consistently centered on helping Tribal communities strengthen their economies, build organizational capacity, and implement sustainable initiatives that support long-term community well-being.
Prior to joining AISES, DJ served for many years with the Inter-Tribal Council of Michigan, Inc., where he held the role of Economic Development Director as well other roles in program management. Through these experiences, he supported Tribes in strengthening economic capacity, developing strategic initiatives, and implementing projects that advanced community-driven development across the region. His work included grant development and management, program design, project implementation,
DJ has also served in leadership roles within Tribal and local government, where he gained extensive experience in governance, policy development, and strategic decision-making within Indigenous communities. Through these roles, he has worked across sectors—including education, economic development, infrastructure, and community planning—to help implement initiatives that deliver practical and lasting benefits to Tribal members.
DJ lives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with his wife and two sons. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration from Northern Michigan University, along with bachelor’s degrees in Human Resources and Business/Management. DJ remains committed to strengthening opportunities for Indigenous communities and supporting the next generation of Indigenous students, leaders, and professionals.
