General Event information


In October 2025, the ISES Board of Directors and membership voted to remove the word “Indian” from the organization’s name to better reflect the diversity of Indigenous communities served. AISES now stands for:Advancing Indigenous Science and Engineering Society to align with this change, the acronym NAISEF now stands for: National Advancing Indigenous Science and Engineering Fair

Yes. NAISEF is a free public event. Families, siblings, educators, and community members are welcome to attend and explore the fair.

No. There is no registration fee for students participating in NAISEF.

Yes. Parents, siblings, and family members are welcome to attend. In addition to the science fair projects, there will be STEM activities, exhibitor booths, and community programming for visitors.

Participation and Eligibility

NAISEF has two divisions:

Junior Division: Grades 5–8
Senior Division: Grades 9–12

Students must not be over age 20

No. NAISEF does not have any prequalifications or fairs affiliated with it.

NAISEF includes 21 project categories spanning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. A full list of categories can be found in the NAISEF project registration portal (STEMWizard).

NAISEF is an SSP (Society for Science) affiliated fair, meaning it operates under the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) rules and guidelines. Senior Division students should review the official ISEF rules and forms when preparing their projects.

Senior Division competitors need to submit ISEF paperwork. Junior Division competitors do not.

Registration

Students participating in NAISEF must register using STEMWizard.

Teachers must register as a teacher/student sponsor in STEMWizard. Once approved, teachers can help their students register projects.

Project Requirements

Students should bring their project display poster and any allowed presentation materials. Poster dimensions must not exceed the following measurements:

  • Depth (front to back): 76 cm
  • Width (side to side): 122 cm
  • Height (floor to top): 240 cm

No. Projects cannot be mailed ahead of time.

The NAISEF team cannot store or monitor projects before the event and cannot accept liability for items that may be lost or damaged.

Many students choose to print their poster in Oklahoma City upon arrival.

NAISEF will provide a Pit Row Station where students can access printing, tools, and basic materials to help repair or finish their project displays

It is not required to bring your test subject or experimental unit to NAISEF.

The in-person NAISEF event takes place April 10–11, 2026 in Oklahoma City.

A preliminary agenda will be available for participants and can be viewed on our website.

No. Students do not need to be present to receive their award. If a student cannot attend the ceremony, a NAISEF team member will coordinate with the student and teacher/sponsor to ensure the award is delivered.

Travel and Accommodations

Travel funding varies each year based on grants, sponsorships, and program priorities. Funding provided in previous years does not guarantee funding in future years. At this time, all travel funding for this NAISEF cycle has been fully allocated.

Participants traveling to NAISEF should look for hotels in the Oklahoma City metro area. Many visitors stay near:

  • Downtown Oklahoma City
  • Bricktown Entertainment District
  • Oklahoma State Fair Park area

Travel and Accommodations

Students commonly wear either:

  • Business professional attire
  • Traditional Indigenous regalia

Both are welcome and encouraged. Students should choose clothing that represents them while also being comfortable during judging and presentations.
