Civil Rights Symposium Scholarship 2018-2019 Academic School Year
In celebration of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2nd Annual Civil Rights Transportation Symposium, (3) Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to (3) individual students currently enrolled in a post high school education focusing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) related fields. Students must meet Scholarship eligibility requirements to be considered. Deadline for this scholarship is 11:59pm on February 16, 2018. The Scholarship awards will be presented April 11th , 2018.
2018 Summer Research Enhancement Program
A unique training program for students interested in public health prevention research in Native communities. This 10-week program will help students to develop skills and interests in prevention research and participate first hand in community based, on-going research projects at Diné College and at other institutions on the Navajo Nation and in other Native communities.

Join us at the University of Oklahoma for a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program where we will address these questions. Our program is open to current undergraduates in geoscience (or allied) disciplines, and is particularly focused on recruiting undergraduates from under-represented groups.

Apply now for the next workshop will be held July 22-28, 2018 at the University of Washington, Seattle. The Summer internship for Indigenous peoples in Genomics (SING) Workshop is a one-week workshop aimed at discussing the uses, misuses and limitations of genomics as a tool for indigenous peoples' communities. The workshop will also assist in training indigenous peoples in the concepts and methods currently used in genomics.

This year, we are proud to host our second annual Diversity and Inclusion Preview Weekend in the spring of 2018. This preview weekend is intended to introduce attendees to our research programs the year before they apply to graduate school. This event is separate from our departmental applications for admission
The Minority Science Writers Internship at Science
The AAAS Minority Science Writers Internship is for undergraduates who are interested in journalism as a career and who want to learn about science writing. In addition to improving their skills, the program seeks to make a dent in the demographics of the profession: Although science is a global activity, the journalists who cover it don’t reflect that diversity.
2018 Ocean Science Internship
A science interns spends his/her time onboard working with a wide array of scientists, learning how to make scientific observations, log data in the Nautilus systems, summarize dives, and preserve physical samples. The position entails 2-5 weeks working aboard Nautilus as a Data Logger, processing oceanographic data and samples, and participating in educational outreach activities.
Summer Program in Biostatistics and Computational Biology- Harvard School of Public Health
Interns in this program will reside at Harvard for 2 to 3 months each summer. They will participate in collaborative research projects and participate in 1 to 2 research projects at academic and clinical centers at Harvard. They will also receive directed mentoring and support for graduate school applications and selection.
Lonnie Lee and Maria Elena Abernethy Endowment for Native Americans in Engineering
For freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate Student studying engineering at an ABET accredited university, SWE student membership in good standing desired, Native American self-identified required. Students must be attending University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, New Mexico) or New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, New Mexico) or New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. The student's permanent address is in New Mexico.
Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship and the EPP Undergraduate Scholarship
Students who are current sophomores majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields that directly support NOAA's mission may apply. The scholarships provide $19,000 in academic support and participants conduct research at a NOAA facility for two summer internships. Eligible students may apply to both programs with one online application due January 31. Community college students who are transferring to four-year institutions are also eligible to apply.

2018 Seafloor Mapping Internship
A Seafloor Mapping intern spends his/her time onboard working with a team learning how to acquire and process shipboard multibeam, sub-bottom and auxiliary data. The position entails 2-5 weeks working aboard Nautilus as a Mapping Watchstander. While onboard, Seafloor Mapping interns will be assigned an 8-10 hour split working shift.
Understanding the Brain: Neurophotonics- National Science Foundation Research Traineeship Program (NRT)
We are seeking all current first year BU doctoral students in Biology, Graduate Program for Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biophysics/Physiology who are interested in understanding how neural activities at the cellular scale drive computation, behavior and psychology. The NRT program in Neurophotonics will include research that uses light and photo-activated materials to study, control, and image neurons and neural circuits with cellular and sub-cellular resolution.
CIRES: Visiting Fellows
CIRES sponsors a prestigious Visiting Fellows program, inviting scientists to join the thriving community of researchers in Boulder, Colorado. CIRES Visiting Fellowships are intended to stimulate interdisciplinary research across the institute through engagement with CIRES researchers on campus and in Boulder’s NOAA Laboratories. Two-year Visiting Fellowships are available for postdoctoral researchers ($62,000 per year), and terms of up to 12 months (living expenses) for senior scientists on leave or sabbatical. Mayo Clinic Pathways to Physician and Physician/Scientist Diversity: A National Summit FEBRUARY 9-10, 2018
This summit is designed to encourage a national conversation on current challenges and future solutions by involving a national group of stakeholders in exploring the current state of the access pipeline for under-represented students in medical education. Participants will engage in deconstructing the M.D./M.D.-Ph.D. pathway to identify ways to increase diversity in medicine.
