2021 AISES Board of Directors Election

 

The 2021 AISES Board of Directors election is underway! The strength of the Board of Directors comes from different areas of expertise, and this year's slate of candidates offer diverse experiences and expertise important for the leadership and growth of AISES. Each member of the AISES Board of Directors serves a 3-year term.

 

The AISES Board election poll is open. Electing new Board members is an important part of being an AISES member – please vote today! AISES conducts voting electronically. If you need a paper ballot please contact . All AISES professional and college members in good standing are eligible to vote for a maximum of two nominees. Note* You must log into the AISES membership portal to vote. If you need a paper ballot please contact . Regardless of how you vote, you may need to renew your membership.

 

The online ballot is pre-set to close at 8:59 p.m. HST; 10:59 p.m. PDT; 11:59 MDT p.m.; 12:59 p.m. CDT; 1:59 p.m. EDT on the deadline. Once closed, no further ballots are accepted by the platform. Any mail-in ballots must be post marked by the ballot deadline.

2021 Nominees

Gary Burnette

Cheroenhaka

 

Gary is the current AISES Board Chair having served on the board since 2018. He is a Sequoyah Fellow and active as a Tribal Council member in his tribe. He is an IBM Vice-President with over thirty years experience in technology and was the 2017 AISES “Professional of the Year” awardee for Executive Excellence.

 

His passion and expertise lie at the junction of business and technology – recognizing the value of technology and data in removing obstacles or identifying opportunities. Gary holds a B.S. in Computer Science from East Tennessee State and completed post-graduate studies at George Washington. At IBM, he has led large global teams with thousands of technology professionals and managed budgets in the hundreds of millions across product marketing, development, “big data” and held CIO (sales and marketing) and Data Officer roles.

 

At IBM, he is a champion for the native community serving as co-chair of the corporate level council on AIAN diversity.

 

As board chair, Gary has partnered with the CEO and staff during the pandemic helping ensure resiliency and accommodation of new ways to support the crucial agenda and mission of AISES. He is eager to continue to support AISES in a second term.

 

Jonathan Clark

San Carlos Apache Tribe

 

Jonathan is the Project Management Manager at the San Carlos Apache Healthcare Corporation where he oversees large-scale projects and is developing the project management office. In 2004 Jonathan earned a bachelor of science degree in Network Communications Management and in 2010 he also earned a master's degree in Information Systems Management. Jonathan has over 17 years of technical experience as an IT Manager and also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ukraine. He has been involved with AISES since college and as a Professional Member served two terms as the Phoenix AISES President, co-founded the Rainbow Gathering Talking Circle, and is a Sequoyah Fellow. Jonathan dedicates his energy to non-profit organizations advocating equality and diversity in schools, the workplace, and the community. Jonathan served on the founding board of regents for the San Carlos Apache College and as a Corporate Trainer for the Human Rights Campaign promoting the creation of Safe Spaces. Jonathan was also named as a recipient of the prestigious Native American 40 Under 40 award by The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development for his work in Indian Country that demonstrated leadership, initiative, and dedication which made significant contributions in business and his community.

 

Kurt Hansen

 

Kurt Hansen recently retired from industry after 40 years in the aviation, energy and industrial sectors with GE Aviation, GE Energy, BEPC and then in his most recent role with Belcan.

 

He has held a broad range of technical, business and leadership roles in these companies, including 20 years of executive leadership experience in engineering, supply chain and business development at GE. During his career, he led or championed many of GE's change initiatives, including new product introduction, model-based design, Six Sigma and Lean. He retired from GE in 2017 and joined Belcan where he worked for the past few years as VP of Operations.

 

Kurt holds a BSME from SDSU and an MSME from RPI. He was an active member of ASME, AIAA, the SDSU Engineering Advisory Council and the GE Aviation Community Service Fund Board. He represented GE on the AISES CAC, was Founder and National Hub President for the GE Native American Network, and is a Sequoyah Fellow of AISES.

 

Kurt and his wife, Dori, reside in Loveland, OH. They have five children and six grandchildren. Now in retirement, Kurt enjoys spending more time with his family, volunteering, and being outdoors.

 

Joshua John

Navajo

 

Joshua joined Raytheon after completing his bachelor's in physics from Northern Arizona University. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with masters in systems engineering in 2018.

 

At Raytheon, Joshua works as a systems engineer within the Systems Engineering Integration and Test organization. He is a test director for a flight team that performs system testing and flight tests for Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) program. Joshua has been a member of AISES since 2003 and became a Sequoyah member in 2014. He has also been president of the Raytheon American Indian Network (RAIN) and has served on numerous RAIN leadership positions. He has helped plan and execute STEM events with local tribes and AISES chapters. He spear headed the founding of the Southern Arizona AISES professional chapter in 2013.

 

In 2018, he was awarded the Most Promising Engineer award from AISES. Joshua has also served as a judge for the First Nations Launch program since 2019.

Joshua is a member of the Navajo Nation, originally from Shiprock, NM. Joshua is of the Folded Arms People clan, born for the Mountain/Apache People clan; his maternal grandfather is of the Mexican clan, and his paternal grandfather is of the Bear Enemies clan.

Brendan Kinkade

Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

 

Brendan Kinkade, Sequoyah Fellow, AISES 2020 Award Winner for Executive Excellence, and IBM Vice President, Choctaw - Brendan was born in Oklahoma as a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and is a Sequoyah Fellow of AISES. On the local level Brendan has served as Chair of the Los Angeles Unified Schools District’s Title VI Indian Education Program Parent Committee and is father to two wonderful high school age children who are also members of AISES. On the national level he serves on IBM’s Executive Native American Diversity and Inclusion council, leading initiatives around societal impact and IBM employee engagement. He serves as Vice President, Technology and Hybrid Cloud Partnerships at IBM and is also the executive champion of the Native American Council’s Societal Impact and Engagement Squad. The Squad engages in community outreach activities to advance STEM, proposes Impact Grants, and helps build STEM equity in the Native community. Brendan consistently strives to improve current programs and propose thoughtful opportunities for the council to expand. In addition to leading efforts for the Native American community within IBM, Brendan’s global organization is a testament to the values of diversity and inclusion, with over 65% of his managers and 50% of his organization being women and/or minorities.
