AISES 2009 Summer Internship Program

Purpose: To Explore Opportunities with AISES' Partner Agencies
The AISES Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides qualified AISES students with internship opportunities to explore potential federal service careers with the following agencies. Interns are provided a weekly stipend and local transportation allowance.
Please note that summer internships with the CIA are 12 weeks.

- U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs - Washington, D.C.

The internship is a student learning work experience to gain knowledge and understanding of federal and corporate organizations and their operations. An internship should not be viewed as summer employment with an expectation of earnings.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
GPA requirement for Bonneville Power internship is 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
GPA requirement for ASRC Federal Holding Company is 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
- Be enrolled and pursuing a degree in a college or university on a full-time basis.
May be enrolled part-time for ASRC Federal Holding Company but must be attending a technical, two year or four year college or university.
- Be a college or university sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student at the time the internship begins.
- Be a current AISES member
- Be a U.S. citizen. In some cases, partnering agencies will also accept permanent U.S. residents.
Interns should not undertake this commitment if their personal or financial obligations prevent them from being able to participate for ten consecutive weeks or creates an undue hardship.
Provisions
Interns are provided with the following (non-negotiable):
- Round-trip airfare or mileage to internship site
- Weekly stipend
- Dormitory lodging
- Local transportation allowance
Please note that lodging is for the intern only. Family and friends cannot be accommodated, as each intern will be assigned another intern as a roommate.
Internship Terms & Conditions
To be eligible for the AISES Internship program, interns must:
- Complete the entire ten weeks (twelve weeks for CIA) of full-time work in the assigned office.
- Work exclusively for the agency assigned.
- Provide a comprehensive assessment of the program upon its completion.
- Agree to and abide by the policies set forth by AISES.
- Agree to and abide by the AISES Code of Conduct.
Application Procedure
Applications must include:
- Completed
- Completed Essay.
- 2 letters of recommendation.
- Most recent official college transcript(s).
- Current resume must be uploaded to AISES resume database.
Application Deadlines:
September 15, 2008: CIA
February 15, 2009: All other agencies

2009 AMERIND Internship Opportunities
AMERIND is a not-for-profit self-funded risk pool created by its member Native American Housing Authorities and Tribally Designated Housing Entities. AMERIND provides property, liability, fidelity, and employee injury protection to its members.
Safety Services:
AMERIND Risk Management Corporation (AMERIND) is looking for candidates interested in Fire Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Statistics and/or youth and adult education for one of their 2009 Summer Internships.
The candidate selected will spend ten weeks with our Safety Service Team to analyze loss ratio data to identify high risk areas. Once a high risk area is identified the candidate will be responsible for developing an appropriate safety plan or program to be implemented in the field by our member(s). This internship will be located on Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico and will require some field travel towards the end of the timeframe. Responsibilities and skills that will be developed through this opportunity are:
- Learn to provide consultative loss prevention and control services to members and policyholders.
- Helps members to identify preventable losses.
- Create training(s) to present to members on preventable loss protection.
- Conducts training(s) on loss prevention trends and techniques for members.
- Build a good working relationship with members and have a member service orientation.
- Help maintain proper records in accordance with company policies on records retention.
- Knowledgeable in presenting company products to members.
- Help to attain loss ratio goals.

Marketing and Events:
AMERIND Risk Management Corporation (AMERIND) is looking for candidates interested in Marketing, Event Planning, Corporate Branding Initiatives, Graphic Design, and/or Customer Satisfaction Analysis for one of their 2009 Summer Internship Programs.
The candidate selected will spend ten weeks with our Marketing and Events Team to work on market penetration and customer service initiatives. One of AMERIND’S offered products will be selected to develop promotional materials as well as locate appropriate markets to target advertisements. In addition they will help identify and measure success of previous marketing initiatives through the development and analysis of customer satisfaction surveys. This internship will be located on Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico and may require some field travel towards the end of the timeframe. Responsibilities and skills that will be developed through this opportunity are:
- Relate to customers that we service what we sell and solicit their opinion and suggestions.
- Maintain good customer relationships.
- Write and produce marketing materials
- Prepare information by collecting and reviewing information then inputting, editing, retrieving, and copying data, text and graphics as needed.
- Learning to contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects.
