The camp was held June 13-25 and included 48 middle school students- 24 girls and 24 boys from New Mexico and surrounding areas. Many of the students who attended represented the Pueblos and Tribes of New Mexico and Arizona. The two-week residential camp gave students a chance to work with and hands-on experience with experiments, role models and innovative programs to encourage their continued participation in math and science course. During the camp the students were encourage to work in teams and think creatively, giving the students an opportunity to show their leadership potential and citizenship skills. The camp was filled with daily activities such as building test robots, engineering durable bridges to compete against one another, assembling wooden gliders- also used in a competition and putting together a research project based on what the students can do to help save the environment. The students not only got to work in a classroom environment, but also went on several field excursions including; visiting the Eight Northern Summer Science Camp at Nambe Falls, a trip to the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History, and a trip to the Dragon Farm a residential garden at the South Valley Academy located in Albuquerque.
