Shayai Lucero
Former AISES Vice-National Student Rep/Miss Indian World
Shayai is graduating with her BS degree in Biology and minor in Chemistry from the University of New Mexico. Shayai has been involved with AISES since 1988 when she went to a Math Camp at NMSU. Her involvement with AISES continued through high school as she represented the American Indian community twice at the International Science and Engineering Fair (1991 and 1992) after winning at the NAISEF. In 1992, Shayai was selected AISES Student of the Year and in 1996, Shayai was selected Vice-National Student Representative which she resigned from when she was selected as the 14th Miss Indian World. Shayai also holds a certificate in Traditional Mexican Healing from the UNM and University of Morelos (Mexico). She also researched and wrote a book, Medicinal Plants of the Acoma and Laguna Pueblos. Her plans after graduating include continuing her studies in traditional healing (Pueblo and Mexican). |
