AISES Graduate Student
I grew up in the lower Okanogan Valley near the Colville Indian Reservation in north central Washington State. After moving west for college, I fell in love with the ocean and all the amazing creatures residing within it. I am particularly interested in understanding the myriad intricate ecological relationships that evolution has conjured up over the millennia and how they are being affected by climate change. My graduate research focuses on the effects of ocean acidification and climate change on early developmental processes (fertilization, larval growth, metamorphosis) of marine invertebrates (sea urchins, abalone, mussels, etc.). In the future, I hope to pursue a career that intertwines indigenous knowledge with modern science and effectively strengthens the historically deep connection of native peoples with their environment. |
